Royal Navy
“Royal Navy degree options reflect those degrees at the DTUS Universities that are considered to have the most direct relevance and utility in terms of a career as a Marine Engineer (ME), Weapon Engineer (WE) or Air Engineer (AE). They all meet the minimum requirements in terms of Engineering Institute registration.
Whilst there is no absolute correlation between degree and the ME/WE/AE sub-spec choice made in the Second year at University some degrees lend themselves more obviously to some sub-specs than others and this may be taken into account when finalising sub-specs (eg Electrical/Electronic – any sub-spec, Aeronautical – AE ideally but could still be any if required, Ship Science – ME ideally but could be any if required). This is discussed in detail at the L6 Services Career Day.
All RN students MUST apply and commence Bachelors Degrees even if A Level results would allow direct entry to similar Masters courses (where different entry criteria apply). Hence RN* caveat against relevant Masters degrees on the individual university listings. Deferral from a BRNC entry point 3 years after commencing a degree to the 4 year point will be made by the end of the Second year subject to recommendation by Sqn CO, achievement of university criteria and approval by AIB.
Every effort has been made to ensure the degree lists for the DTUS universities correctly reflect all RN applicable degrees. However, where required, clarification on specific degrees (or their associated options subjects) or advice on career streaming implications may be obtained from CO Thunderer Squadron via DSFC staff”.
