Fencing
A student fencing session is run on Wednesday nights, 9:00 – 10:00 PM in the Sports Hall. This caters for both those who have never fenced before and wish to try the sport, as well as people who have fenced before and wish to continue during their time at the College.
The College has a number of sets of equipment which are augmented by kit from Woodhouse Eaves Fencing Club, who also supply the coaches. If you have not fenced before, you need to wear full length trousers (such as tracksuit bottoms) and a T-Shirt or similar. The kit available is suitable for steam foil, so the more experienced fencers who wish to fence electric foil, sabre or epee would have to supply their own breeches in order to comply with safety regulations. If you are an existing fencer and wish to bring further kit and weapons with you please speak to the College before doing so.
For the more experienced fencers there is the possibility to attend the club’s senior session on Thursday nights 8:00 – 9:00 PM. The Thursday session provides more opportunities to fence sabre and epee. There is no charge for attending the Thursday sessions but participation is subject to College permission which is dependent on academic work being satisfactory. The club can also provide details of local county and regional competitions.
