The Welbeck Curriculum
In addition to the academic programme students study both PT and PSHCE. The PSHCE course emphasises moral, spiritual and leadership development. Arrangements are made to accommodate all faiths and the College day usually begins with a brief service.
Lower Sixth
All Lower Sixth students study four AS level subjects. Mathematics and Physics are compulsory. Mathematics will be studied for six one-hour periods per week, (one per day), with an additional half hour of prep every night. All other subjects are taught for five periods a week. Most of the courses available for Welbeck MOD students at University are engineering based and will therefore require Mathematics and Physics.
The other subjects are offered to allow students to develop their scientific base and/or to develop a broader range of knowledge and understanding. Currently the subjects are: Biology, Chemistry, Electronics, Design & Technology (Systems & Control), Computing, Geography, History, Government & Politics, Sport and PE and Business Studies.
Upper Sixth
All Upper Sixth students are encouraged to drop an AS level and take up an enrichment subject. A level Mathematics cannot be dropped except if a student is experiencing major difficulties with the subject. WPS students can drop mathematics if the subsequent choice of subjects fits into our timetable. The enrichment subjects available are described on the Enrichment Subjects page. In exceptional circumstances, a student may carry on with four A levels.
All subjects are fully explained on the Core Subjects page.
