Pastoral Care
The commitment & professionalism of staff provide students with very good support.
- Independent Schools Inspectorate, 2003
Students are effectivly supervised at all times, as a member of staff will always be on call. If a student has a particular problem there will always be someone they can talk to.
The students are looked after in several ways:-
- The academic tutors deliver the curriculum and monitor an individual’s progress. They work closely with the Personal Tutor to ensure everyone makes the most of their opportunities.
- The Physical Education specialists generate the fitness programmes and regularly monitor performance against set targets. These programmes are reviewed and modified to suit each individual. The College Medical Centre informs the PE department of all students who are on restricted activities.
- The personal tutors are the key people in the pastoral care of the students; they monitor all aspects of a student’s education and are the first point of contact when problems arise. They will address the holistic nature of their education and will work closely with parents/guardians and the Houseparents to ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity to succeed.
- The support staff will make sure that all the facilities are in good working order and maintain a level of service commensurate with the nature of the organisation.
- There is a prefect body which includes a year group prefect and house prefects. Our prefects were reacently described by an Independent Schools Inspectorate inspection team as being "exemplars" rather than disciplinarians, a quality that we expect from all potential officers. Each new boarder has access to a 'mentor' (a pupil from the upper sixth) to care for them.
