Swimming
- British, County and Royal Navy Masters Swim Championships (March 2010)
- Midlands Schools Swimming Gala
Swimming is a very popular sport among all students, the use ranges from competition training to recreational and even used as an aid for recovery. The pool is one of the greatest assets to the college, being able to have a heated 25 metre indoor pool, in the centre of the college, and less than a five minutes walk from study bedrooms, what more could you ask for?
There are sessions taking place six times a week with an external coach coming in to offer us his expertise. Sessions include two early morning swims on a Tuesday and Friday, a morning swim on a Sunday, major sport sessions, and a chance on a Friday afternoon to train with an external squad. Swimming can also be taken for a major sport in the autumn and spring terms, both seeming to be very popular, whether students are wanting to gain a better technique, improve their fitness, or train for competitions, all are welcome and well accommodated.
During the time here, although our schedules are already jam packed, the more proficient swimmers are able to have the opportunity to enter local events, such as the Leicestershire Counties, The National Schools Swimming Gala, and Midlands (if times are to the level needed). There is also the Army championships in the autumn term which we enter most years.
In the recent years our swimmers have done really well in the Counties, and in 2010 our girls team went to the National Schools Final for 50 x Freestyle.
Swimming at Welbeck can be anything that you want it to be.
